Cartalax (Ala-Glu-Asp) is a cartilage-targeted tripeptide bioregulator whose amino acid sequence is structurally related to regulatory regions of Type XI collagen fibrils in cartilage extracellular matrix. In vitro studies using rat cartilage tissue cultures report that Cartalax increases cartilage area index by 18–38%, stimulates proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression, and simultaneously reduces p53 protein synthesis.
