Cardiogen (Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg) is a synthetic tetrapeptide bioregulator studied in cardiovascular research models for its modulation of fibroblast activity and cardiomyocyte proliferation. In cultured fibroblast studies, incubation with H-Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg-OH increased expression of cytoskeletal proteins (actin, vimentin, tubulin) and nuclear matrix proteins (lamin A and C) by up to fivefold, suggesting activation of intracellular metabolism and proliferative signaling. An experimental coronary ligation model reported a threefold reduction in mortality and reduction of necrotic zones in treated subjects, with proposed mechanisms including downregulation of p53 to reduce cardiomyocyte apoptosis and preservation of glycogen stores in ischemic tissue.
